Cardinals vs Manhasset Mets

Two tough losses this weekend to a much older Manhasset Mets team.

In Game 1, Brian Moorehead made his fall pitching debut, throwing 1 pitch in the first to get out of the inning and following it with 2 1/3 innings of 2 run ball. Anthony Wallitsch followed with 1 2/3 innings of shut out ball. Chris Sarni caught 3 solid innings behind the plate, followed by 2 good innings by Kyle Carroll. 1st baseman Nick Schoen contributed an unassisted double play in the 4th inning and Kyle Cashman continued his excellent defensive play at short with 3 putouts. Matt Tsotras played well in left, right and at 3rd base.

In game 2, Ryan Fama provided the assist in an 8-3 double play in the first inning. Fama then pitched 3 strong innings. After an excellent over the shoulder catch by 2nd baseman Andrew Purcell, Fama picked the runner off of 3rd base, making the strong pick off to 3rd baseman Dylan MacDonald, and then induced a groundball out, Purcell to Wallitsch, to end the inning.

Thanks to Anthony Salomone for coming down to help out in game two, catching 3 good innings behind the dish.

Despite the tough losses, the boys continue to improve and keep their heads up as they get used to the larger field dimensions as well as playing against teams as much as 2 years older.

The Coach Carroll Players of the Game were Brian Moorehead in game 1, who pitch well in his fall debut and Ryan Fama, who pitched well in game two and added two defensive gems.
