
The 8th Grade Cardinals finished the season this past weekend with 3 games in 4 days.
Wed June 6th:
Joe Morrisey pitched one of the best games of the year, giving up two unearned runs to St Edward's. Unfortunately, the Cardinal bats were just as quiet and the boys took a 2-1 loss. 2nd Baseman Marc Shepard was 2-4 with 2 stolen bases and Catcher Mike Tarone played his first game since coming off the DL with a broken hand.
The Coach Carroll Player of the Game was pitcher Joe Morrisey.
Sat June 9th (Game 1):
The Cardinals came out smoking against undefeated St Dominic's, putting up 4 runs in the first inning. Left fielder Joe Morrisey started things off with a single and a stolen base. After a walk to Shortstop John DiSanto, Pitcher Chris Morgan scorched a triple to deep centerfield. After 1st Baseman Mike Lapinksi was hit by a pitch, Catcher Mike Tarone crushed a double into the right center field gap, scoring two more runs.
Chris Morgan held St. Dom's scoreless through 4 1/3 innings, but St. Dom's eventually broke through with 2 in the 5th and 3 in the 6th. The Cardinals had the tying run on 2nd in the 6th inning but could not plate the run.
The Coach Carroll Player of the Game was Chris Morgan, who, in addition to his tremendous pitching, was 3-3 with a triple, 2 singles and 2 stolen bases.
June 9th (Game 2)
After the tough defeat to St Dom's, the Cardinal came roaring back against St. Thomas, scoring 12 runs in the first inning and cruising to a 24-4 victory.
John DiSanto was 2-2 with a walk, HBP and 4 runs scored, Elijah Rustin homered and scored 3 runs, Mike Tarone was 3-3 with a triple, walk and 3 runs scored, Suhail Zalia contributed 2 hits and 3 runs scored, Mike Lapinski had two runs scored, Marc Shepard scored 3 runs and Justin Lambott added a single to help put the game away.
Christian Funfgeld pitched great for 3 innings and Suhail Zalia finished up with a scoreless 4th. Danny Artuso caught the entire game and did another great job behind the plate.
The Coach Carroll Player of the Game was Christian Funfgeld, who pitched great for 3 innings and added 3 runs scored on a single and two walks.
Despite a final record of 4-7, the Cardinals played well and were in all but two games, losing three by 1 run and two others by 3 runs. In 5 of the 7 losses, the tying runs were either on base or at the plate.
